The Adopt a friend ministry puts Christians together with folks in the Nursing Home or Assisted Living Facility that do not get visited.
The Story of Thomas:
My name is David LeBeau. I met a man named Thomas who at first didn't want any thing to do with me. Thomas is blind and seemed very alone. He would not even allow me to come in to his room at first, but I kept coming back. After several months of hearing my name called from the door he allowed me to come in. Thomas did not want to hear any thing about Jesus so I became friends and only told him that Jesus loved him when leaving. He eventually allowed me to talk about the Gospel and even let me pray with him most of the time. I have been visiting with Thomas for about two years now and our relationship is pretty good, but I am still working on it with the Lord's guidance. Thomas has a wife and a son. He asked me to call them once to ask them to come see him and I did. I talked to the son and he said he would go see his dad. From what I know that visit never happened. Thomas is very alone and very forgotten! From what I see Thomas is in the minority as far as personality goes. Most of these folks are very friendly.
The Story of Betty:
My name is Dodie. I met Betty one day just making door to door visits in a local nursing home. Somehow Betty seemed very special, she wanted me to visit and she was very willing to try to communicate but could not hear at all. She repeatedly said "huh" loudly & turned her ear for me to scream into before she could hear. I did the best that I could, had prayer with her & left. God put Betty on my heart. On my next visit I brought a wipe-off board to assist us in visiting. This really thrilled Betty.....such a little thing, but it meant so much to her. That board is on Betty's bed side table. Betty lights up when she sees me coming to visit and she reaches for that board!. (Betty is a pretty good huger too!)
I thank God for his love and care in these folks lives!
What are their needs?
First- Spiritual, that is the greatest need. First Salvation and then Christian fellowship.
Second- Emotionally, Every one needs a friend. We all need someone that cares.
